Contemplation: Patients who are contemplative recognize the issue at hand, and furthermore are beginning to be motivated to change. They may weigh the pros and cons of behavior change and begin to comprehend that the benefits of change outweigh the discomfort of the process. Some patients may begin to procrastinate during this stage or miss appointments altogether due to the discomfort at recognizing that their current method of psychosocial functioning is maladaptive.
